5 Uses for Your Dehydrator
If you ever wondered what to do with your dehydrator other than make granola, chips or pie crusts, here are some ideas you might want to try:
Wilt greens Dress fresh spinach with olive oil, salt and black pepper (optional); wilt in the dehydrator at 115°F for a few minutes; toss in finely chopped golden raisins and whole pignoli nuts, then serve. Quick and easy!
Warm dinnerware Take the chill out of cold soups by warming your empty serving bowl right before plating.
Make fruit roll-ups For a very simple recipe, in a high-speed blender, blend until smooth and creamy in any combination or quantity, your favorite fruit high in pectin such as berries, peeled apple, mango, pineapple, bananas, or pitted stone fruit (e.g., apricots, nectarines, cherries, peaches, etc.). Pour onto a Teflex sheet and dehydrate at 115°F until dry, yet pliable. Peel off Teflex sheet before serving.
Soften ice cream When your ice cream is too hard for eating, transfer it from freezer to dehydrator, and melt at 115°F for a few minutes until soft. Serve immediately.
Marinate vegetables In a stainless steel bowl, toss vegetables you have prepped (e.g., broccoli or cauliflower florets, julienned carrots, summer squash or bell pepper, slivered onions, etc.) with a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, and peeled and minced garlic. Dehydrate at 115°F until vegetables soften. Use veggies for inside wraps, as a side dish or tossed with zucchini pasta for a nutritious and flavorful meal.
